Last year, the USA rejected Ukraine’s proposal to provide technology to combat Iranian Shahed drones.
According to Axios, US officials now call this decision one of their biggest mistakes, as Iranian drones have already killed seven US servicemen and caused huge financial losses.
During a closed meeting at the White House on August 18, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered Donald Trump Ukrainian interceptor drones.
The Ukrainian delegation gave a presentation with a map of the Middle East, warning about the improvement of Iranian drones and proposing the creation of “anti-drone centers” in Turkey, Jordan, and the Persian Gulf countries.
The proposal was structured as a business partnership: Ukraine would provide technology and expertise and, in return, receive investment to expand production and access to American weapons. The Ukrainian side estimated the production potential at 20 million units, which would enable the USA to achieve complete dominance in unmanned systems.
Despite Trump’s instructions to look into the matter, the administration ignored the proposal for a long time. Some officials considered Zelensky to be “excessively self-promoting” and the idea itself unworthy of attention. However, the situation has only now changed, with the USA officially approaching Ukraine for help in countering drones during the war with Iran.
Interestingly, amid delays at the state level, Donald Trump’s sons have already announced a business project to supply Ukrainian technologies to the Pentagon.
