The United States of America is replenishing its own stocks of GMLRS, which use the HIMARS and M270 systems.
This was announced by the Pentagon.
According to the US Department of Defense website, Dr. William LaPlante, Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, and Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology Doug Bush visited critical manufacturing facilities.
American officials visited facilities responsible for producing High Mobility Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS).
“As we continue providing security assistance to Ukraine, we are working with industry to accelerate production of critical weapons and systems,” said LaPlante.
“This includes providing funding to buy more equipment, expand production lines, and support additional hiring and workforce development.”
As an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with industry, LaPlante highlighted opportunities to address complex production requirements and issues of obsolescence, as well as to speed contracting processes.
“We have received nearly $400 million dollars to replenish HIMARS and GMLRS in DoD stocks,” said LaPlante.
“In addition, we are planning nearly $200 million to expand and accelerate production and are anticipating contract awards this fall and early next year.”
The GMLRS is a family of American 227 mm guided missiles. These munitions are classified as high-precision. They have a target range of 15 to 84 kilometers.
These munitions are used for the HIMARS and M270 systems.
As previously reported, the United States is focused on increasing the supply of GMLRS guided rockets with a range of up to 84 kilometers.
