The Pentagon ordered NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems for Ukraine worth more than $182 million.
This is stated in a message on the website of the US Defense Department.
The United States Department of Defense contracted Raytheon Missiles & Defense to purchase SAMs.
NASAMS short and medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems are intended for Ukraine.
“Raytheon Co., Tewksbury, Massachusetts, was awarded a $182,295,333 firm-fixed-price contract for the procurement of National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems,” stressed in the message.
Raytheon confirmed the order on its website.
“Raytheon Missiles & Defense and our partners are working diligently to quickly deliver this critical, proven air defense capability to help the Ukrainian people defend their homeland,” the company’s management said.
The press release noted that Ukraine will join a dozen countries around the world that rely on NASAMS to counter a host of air threats, including cruise missiles, aircraft and unmanned aviation systems.
The corporation did not specify how many air defense systems the American armed forces ordered.
According to the Pentagon, the estimated date for the completion of the air defense system production is August 23, 2024.
On August 24, it became known that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are to receive 6 NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems and missiles to them. Air defense systems are included in a new $3 billion US military aid package.
In July, the United States announced another $820 million aid package to Ukraine. According to the spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the air defense of Ukraine will receive two batteries of the NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system.
