The United States is sending an additional aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East led by the USS Carl Vinson.

Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell announced this.

The second U.S. Navy aircraft carrier group is expected to arrive in the region within the next two weeks.

It will join the aircraft carrier strike group of the USS Harry S. Truman, whose ships and aircraft have previously executed multiple strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen. Both vessels will be in the region simultaneously for at least one to two months.

Chief Pentagon Spokesman stated that the second aircraft carrier strike group will arrive in the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility to “strengthen regional stability, deter aggression, and ensure the security of trade routes.”

In addition, the United States is deploying new combat aircraft to the region amid escalating tensions with Iran. Specifically, additional A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft were transferred to the Middle East at the end of March.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth emphasized that if Iran or its proxies threaten U.S. personnel and interests in the region, the United States will take decisive action.

The Situation in the Region

President Donald Trump recently intensified U.S. strikes against Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen.

U.S. officials have stated that they hold Iran responsible for the Houthi blockade of the Red Sea.

The U.S. President also threatened Iran with bombings and secondary tariffs if Tehran did not reach an agreement with Washington regarding its nuclear program.

For its part, Iran has threatened to attack British bases in the region in the event of an attack by the United States.

Over the past week, six B-2 bombers have been redeployed to the American-British military base on Diego Garcia Island in the Indian Ocean. These aircraft are capable of carrying bunker-busting bombs that can destroy Iran’s fortified and underground military and nuclear facilities.
