The United States is imposing a complete naval blockade on all ships entering or leaving Iranian ports.
The restrictions will take effect on April 13 at 5:00 PM Kyiv time, according to U.S. Central Command.
The blockade will apply to all Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, as well as the country’s coastal waters.
The military will enforce these measures impartially toward vessels of all nations. Any maritime traffic attempting to reach or depart from Iran’s coastline will be subject to control.
Meanwhile, the United States will not interfere with freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Ships traveling to or from ports in other countries will be able to pass through this route freely.
Commercial mariners will receive additional guidance through an official notice. It will be provided to relevant parties immediately before the operation begins.
To establish communication with the U.S. Navy in the Gulf of Oman and near the Strait of Hormuz, Channel 16 should be used.
Donald Trump has ordered the U.S. Navy to begin a full blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump stated that from now on, no vessel will be able to enter or exit the strait, but added that ‘at some point’ the United States may reconsider this policy. At the same time, the U.S. president did not specify the conditions under which this might happen.
Washington cites Iran’s actions as the reason for the blockade, with Trump saying that Iran has restricted transit through the strait due to the presence of naval mines.
Mines have become one of the reasons for the slowdown in negotiations between the United States and Iran in Pakistan.
The U.S. president also ordered the navy to identify and detain in international waters any vessel that has paid transit fees to Iran. In addition, he announced the launch of a campaign to clear mines from the strait, but did not specify how this would be carried out.
