The German authorities believe that unknown drones were spying on critical infrastructure facilities in the state of Schleswig-Holstein last week.
European Pravda reported on this, citing Spiegel.
Currently, law enforcement is investigating the incident involving the deliberate flight of UAVs over important sites on the evening of September 25.
The media recalls that a drone flew over a power plant, Kiel University Hospital, and the state government building.
According to an internal memo, last Thursday, shortly after 9 p.m., two small drones first flew over the shipyard of the Thyssenkrupp group, which specializes in submarine construction. After that, a “group of drones with a main drone” was spotted over the university hospital.
Shortly after 10 p.m., a similar group of aerial vehicles appeared over a coastal power plant and the North-Eastern Canal. Later, one large and several small drones were spotted over Kiel Bay.
According to sources in security circles, drones also flew over the Landeshaus Kiel building, which houses the state parliament’s headquarters.
In addition, the drones were monitoring the Heide oil refinery, which, among other things, supplies fuel to Hamburg Airport.
The internal memo notes that the state police, while observing the drones, noticed they were flying parallel routes – clearly to accurately measure objects on the ground.
After the incident, the state government announced an investigation on suspicion of espionage but did not provide any details.
According to the media, on September 25, unknown drones also flew over the Zarnitz military base in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The next day, a similar incident occurred over the Navy command in Rostock.
Similar drone incidents have already occurred in Schleswig-Holstein. Earlier this month, police special units detained a cargo ship that was likely being used as a base for launching drones.
