The Armed Forces of Ukraine have received 18 new Bohdana self-propelled howitzers, which the Kingdom of Denmark financed.
Troels Lund Poulsen, Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Denmark, announced this at the Yalta European Strategy (YES) forum.
According to the Minister of Defense, the Bohdana self-propelled howitzers, the purchase of which Denmark financed, are now in service.
He also noted that the transfer of all the ordered systems took place two months after this deal was financed.
“This was the first deal we signed. In July, we placed an order to produce 18 Bohdana artillery systems, and this weekend, they were transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Poulsen said.
In addition, the Minister noted that it is much easier to purchase weapons and provide technical and material support for them, as it requires much less money.
“Now we are calling on more European countries to fund weapons production here in Ukraine,” the Minister added.
Oleksandr Kamyshin, former Minister of Strategic Industries, noted that Ukraine is capable of producing and implementing more projects that would help the country in the war, but the only pressing issue is sufficient funding.
In July 2024, the government of the Kingdom of Denmark announced that it would fund the production of 18 Ukrainian 2S22 Bohdana wheeled howitzers.
Denmark’s representatives chose this particular artillery system as military aid based on an official recommendation from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Strategic Industries.
Denmark’s order of Ukrainian-made heavy weapons for the needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces was the first such precedent. This was part of an official agreement between the two countries on defense cooperation signed in June this year.
According to official statements, in May of this year, the Ukrainian defense industry reached the monthly production rate of 10 Bogdan self-propelled howitzers.
