The Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a cruise missile using a man-portable anti-aircraft system.
This happened during one of the largest missile attacks during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian invaders.
The military published a video of the combat mission.
It is claimed that this was achieved through the use of Igla MANPADS.
The cruise missile, which the Russian occupiers fired at the territory of Ukraine, was flying at low altitudes.
The mobile air defense group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detected a missile on its flight course and the MANPADS operator launched at the target. The cruise missile was hit and thus fell down.
Igla MANPADS is a man-portable anti-aircraft missile system designed to engage low-flying helicopters and enemy aircraft on counter and parallel courses under the influence of natural and artificial thermal interference.
The system includes: 9М39 rocket; 9P39 launching tube; 9P516 trigger with 1L14 built-in ground radar interrogator; 1L110 portable electronic tablet.
On the morning of October 10, Russian troops carried out the largest rocket attack on the territory of Ukraine in recent months. Civilian facilities, energy facilities and critical infrastructure across the country have been targeted by Russian invaders.
As a result of the missile attack, 11 important infrastructure facilities in 8 regions and Kyiv were damaged. Some areas were without electricity, and some still are. Currently, 87 people are injured across the country.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian invaders used 84 cruise missiles, 24 unmanned aerial vehicles, of which 13 were Iranian-made Shahed-136.
The Ukrainian military destroyed 56 targets. Among them, 43 cruise missiles and 13 UAVs (of which 10 are kamikaze drones).
