At the end of this week, the first group of specialists completed the training course and carried out practical shooting at targets at the landfill at the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security of the National Ground Forces Academy.
Military training of the soldiers lasted only two days.
“One of them [ed. military] went to theory, the other – to practice actions. In addition, this time is enough to master this type of weapon. The Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine (JMTG-U) took an active part in the drill of Ukrainians,” said Colonel Oleksandr Molokov, Deputy Head of the 184th Training Center.
According to the representative of the Main Directorate of Doctrines and Training of the General Staff Colonel Mykola Huben, next week more than two dozen military personnel from different military units must arrive to the 184th Training Center in order to gain the necessary knowledge and skills of using the M141 Bunker Defeat Munition grenade launcher.
SMAW-D (“Disposable”), is a single-shot, shoulder-launched weapon designed to defeat hardened structures. The warhead is the High Explosive, Dual Purpose (HEDP). It is effective against masonry and concrete bunkers as well as lightly armored vehicles.
A crush switch in its nose that is able to distinguish between hard and soft targets activates the warhead. On soft targets, such as sandbags, the detonation is delayed until the projectile is buried in the target, producing a devastating effect. The warhead detonates immediately on contact with hard targets. The projectile is capable of penetrating up to 200 mm of concrete, 300 mm of brick, or 2.1 m of sandbags.
While BDM is optimized for use against fortifications, it is also capable of destroying unarmored and light armored vehicles.
In addition, NLAW (Next Generation Light Anti-tank Weapon) anti-tank systems handed over to the UK were recently tested in Ukraine.
