Soldiers of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces, together with adjacent units, captured eight Russian soldiers of the Russian Airborne Forces and the Russian Naval Infantry in the Kursk region.
The press service of the Command of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces reported on this.
All the prisoners of war belong to elite units of the Russian military – the Russian Airborne Forces and the Russian Naval Infantry. In particular, they are servicemen of the 810th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade, the 76th Guards Air Assault Division, and the 83rd Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade.
“The POWs were provided with timely medical and psychological assistance. In their units on the territory of the Russian Federation, they were subjected to inhuman treatment, torture, and even executions for failure to comply with criminal orders,” the Command of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces reported.
Despite the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Defense Forces from the city of Sudzha in the Kursk region to take up more advantageous positions near the eastern border of Ukraine, the fighting in the Kursk region continues.
According to official information, on March 15, there were 11 clashes on the Kursk front since the beginning of the day, three of which are still ongoing. In addition, the enemy carried out 21 airstrikes, dropped 32 guided bombs, and also conducted 150 shelling attacks on Ukrainian military positions and settlements.
The intensity of combat in this area is among the highest on the entire front, surpassed only by the Pokrovsk direction.
As President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted in his address on March 15, 2025, the Kursk operation is progressing successfully. This has led to the enemy concentrating significant forces in the region, which has, in turn, alleviated pressure on other sectors.
On March 12, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi said that Russian troops are seeking to move the fighting to the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
According to his data, since the beginning of the Kursk operation, the total enemy losses amount to over 54,900 personnel. Of these, more than 22,200 are killed, 31,800 are wounded, and 942 are prisoners of war.
Deterring the enemy on the eastern border of Ukraine in the Sumy region is of critical importance. There, the enemy is amassing significant forces and attempting to infiltrate reconnaissance and sabotage groups into Ukrainian territory.
‘The buildup of Russian forces indicates that Moscow continues to ignore diplomacy. Russia’s delay of the war is evident,’ the President wrote on his official page.
