Soldiers of the 68th Jaeger Brigade are trained to accurately fire Hatsan Escort semi-automatic guns to combat enemy drones.
It is reported by ArmyInform.
Journalists of the publication visited the training ground at which instructors trained the soldiers of the brigade firing with 12 caliber shotguns.
The soldiers trained during the exercises will become fighters with enemy FPV drones, massively used on both sides of the front.
“The Russian military industry is developing not by days, but every hour: their drones have different frequencies, which also change on the go. Therefore, often EW systems cannot land enemy FPVs. And if they break through the EW, then there remains an old reliable way to shoot down a flying target. It is almost impossible to escape from the FPV, it is better to meet this enemy with weapons.
Semi-automatic Hatsan Escort is able to destroy the target effectively at a distance of 120 meters, and makes 10 shots per minute. This is a very good chance compared to running at position, believe me,” says Oleksandr, Commander of the 68th Jaeger Brigade anti-aircraft missile division.
The military said that to combat drones the most effective type of cartridges and guns was experimentally selected. This gave its result and such tactics became in demand in the conditions of active use of drones.
“We are dealing with 70-90 FPVs per day. We find them, but not everyone has time to repay our funds. Therefore, you have to take on additional tools. These guns overlap the working distance from which drones discharge. The main altitudes: 50, 80, 100 meters,” says the instructor.
On the day of the report, Oleksandr and his colleagues trained 50 soldiers. First of all, hunters were selected, then good shooters.
“The job is very responsible: to shoot down drones when everyone is hiding. You have to have a strong character. To be physically strong, and so, a healthy lifestyle,” the instructor noted.
The soldiers themselves say that the fact that they will have to carry additional weapons is not a problem for them compared to the constant attacks of the FPVs. They manage to solve the problem of “friendly fire” through coordination with aerial reconnaissance units.
“There is an agreement that the friendly drones will not hover over our positions and linger, or you will be warned. Your task is to shoot down,” says one of the soldiers.
The trend for the use of semi-automatic guns to protect against FPV-drones has been traced for a long time not only among the Ukrainian military, but also among Russians.
Among Russian invaders, it is not uncommon to see fighters armed with both old double-barreled guns and more modern civilian models, such as the Vepr-12 semi-automatic rifle.
