A Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter shot down a Russian Shahed attack drone with machine gun fire located in the nose.
The military recorded the pursuit and defeat of the enemy drone on video, which was posted on the KARYMAT Telegram channel.
The Russian attack UAV of the Shahed type was detected while flying at low altitude above the water surface.
A Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter was dispatched to destroy it. A crew member of the aircraft used a 7.62 mm machine gun located in the nose turret to hit it.
A direct hit resulted in the explosion of the Russian Shahed, which thus failed to reach its intended target.
Earlier, a video was also released showing a Mi-24P attack helicopter acting as an interceptor for Russian drones.
The footage shows the helicopter firing its GSh-30K double-barreled 30mm gun at night.
However, the video does not show whether an enemy air target was hit in the Ukrainian sky. It is not known when or where the video was shot.
The use of helicopters to intercept Russian attack drones can be effective, but success depends on many factors, including crew training and timely detection of enemy air targets.
This way, anti-aircraft missiles can be saved. However, this use of helicopters is limited because they must operate over uninhabited territory, such as rivers, reservoirs, or the sea. This is to avoid endangering civilian objects and the population.
Recently, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have begun using FPV drones to shoot down Russian reconnaissance UAVs in Ukrainian airspace.
The speed of the drone, which is used as a kamikaze interceptor, is enough to catch up with and hit a Russian reconnaissance drone flying at a low speed.
