The Odesa Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine destroyed an enemy ZALA reconnaissance drone using an FPV drone.
A video of the destruction was published on the official website of the State Border Guard Service.
A Russian ZALA 421-16E reconnaissance drone was destroyed in the south of the country.
After detecting the enemy drone, SBGS officers launched an FPV drone into the sky, which rose to an altitude and hit it.
“The enemy drone tried to reconnoiter the area in the south. It was prevented by the soldiers of the Odesa Detachment, who, having calculated the direction of movement, used a strike “bird” to shoot down the target,” the SBGS stated.
The affected drone lost its right wing console and fell into an open area in a field.
The interception took place at coordinates 46.675452, 31.577120 northeast of Ochakiv, Mykolaiv region.
This is not the first time a Russian drone has been intercepted by an FPV drone.
Militarnyi previously reported that in late May, the Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down a Russian ZALA 421-16E reconnaissance drone using an FPV drone.
The destruction of the enemy drone took place in the Donetsk region near the town of Rivnopil at coordinates 47.753363, 36.707223.
The fact that the FPV communication was broken at a short distance from ZALA suggests that the Ukrainian drone had an airburst function.
Intercepting drones with the help of other drones is a relatively new and promising area of air defense development.
