The Ukrainian Defense Forces have successfully encircled the remnants of the Russian invaders in Kupiansk.
The 2nd Khartiia Corps of the National Guard said that in September this year, after the situation in Kupyansk became critical, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine created the Khartia search and strike group.
It includes units of the 13th Khartiia Brigade, the 475th Code 9.2 Assault Regiment, the 92nd Assault Brigade, the Foreign Legion of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, and the 144th Mechanized Brigade.
The grouping was created to eliminate the enemy’s breakthrough north of Kupiansk, to surround the enemy who had broken through to the city and to completely liberate it.
In October-November, the units defeated several battalions and assault units from the 121st, 122nd Motorized Rifle Regiments and the 30th Engineer Regiment of the 68th Motorized Rifle Division and the 27th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces, which were supported by the 7th Regiment of Unmanned Troops and UAV units.
Ukrainian soldiers broke through to the Oskil River north of Kupiansk, completely blocking the invaders’ ground routes into the city.
As a result of heavy fighting, the group of the 13th Khartiia Brigade of the National Guard completely liberated the village of Radkivka and its surroundings, as well as the surrounding forests.
In addition, they drove the enemy out of several dozen houses in the north of Kupiansk. The 475th Code 9.2 Assault Regiment, supported by the 4th Battalion of the 92nd Brigade, completely liberated the village of Kindrashivka, its surroundings and the surrounding forests.
Between September 22 and December 12, the units of the Khartiia group killed 1,027 Russian servicemen.
The fighting in the center of Kupiansk is still ongoing.
“Ukrainian Kupiansk will be completely liberated over time. We thank the neighboring units: 127th and 101st Brigades, the units of Special Operations Forces, VSP, Alpha of the SSU and Cord of the National Police for their clear work and high-quality cooperation. This is our joint success,“ commented Colonel Ihor ‘Kornet’ Obolensky, commander of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard ”Khartiia”.
The enemy’s Russian group in Kupiansk, which now numbers more than 200 servicemen, is completely surrounded.
The enemy attacks daily with up to a platoon, trying to break through the defense of our troops north of Kupiansk. The defense forces repel all these attacks with significant losses for the enemy.
The Russian invaders’ ground access to Kupiansk is completely blocked. All exits from the gas pipe used by the enemy to enter the city are also under fire control. The enemy is supplied exclusively by aerial drones.
Ukrainian troops have to act cautiously, as up to 500 local residents remain in Kupiansk, whom the Russians are trying to use as human shields.
Earlier it became known that the assault unit RUG (Reconnaissance and Strike Group), in which Spanish-speaking volunteers serve with Ukrainians, was involved in the destruction of the invaders in Kupiansk.
“How our soldiers are clearing the city of Kupiansk. A walk to the city center,” reads the description to the video from the RUG.
The RUG is known for the fact that along with Ukrainians, it includes natives of Colombia, as well as volunteers from Peru, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Italy and Mexico.
It is known that the assault regiment Skala, the 125th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade, together with other units, cleared the Yubileiny residential area in Kupiansk from enemy forces.
The Russian invaders were first blocked in high-rise buildings and later eliminated.
This area is located on a dominant height and is strategically important for controlling the city.
In some cases, it was even necessary to plant explosives in high-rise buildings so that they would collapse with the Russians trapped inside.
For several months, DeepState maps showed the situation where the enemy broke through to Kupiansk to a depth of six kilometers from the Oskil River, entered the city from the north and captured most of its right-bank part.
Today, DeepState’s map shows a sharp change in the situation near Kupiansk and in the city itself.
Russia announced the capture of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region on November 20, when Valery Gerasimov, the chief of the Russian General Staff, reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin. On December 2, Putin even announced that the Russian army would take control of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi ‘in a few days.’
However, the Ukrainian military is actively fighting in the city and destroying the remnants of the invaders.
