The Ukrainian 2S22 Bohdana self-propelled howitzer has been adopted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was announced by Suspilne with reference to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The publication addressed a request to the Ministry of Defense of UKraine regarding the adoption of the howitzer and received an affirmative answer.
“We inform you that the Ukrainian Bohdana self-propelled howitzer is in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” says the response letter of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Sources of the publication in the ministry also confirmed that the Bohdana self-propelled howitzer was accepted into service without repeated state tests “according to a simplified procedure”.
In May, the first photos featuring the production process of the Ukrainian 2S22 Bohdana self-propelled howitzer started to appear online. The photo portrayed a wheeled chassis with an armored cab.
It is known that, at least since June, the manufactured self-propelled howitzers have been firing in the presence of the manufacturer’s team. According to some information, the Bohdana howitzers were later to be equipped with a projectile transmitter.
At the end of June, the gunners of the 1st Special Purpose Brigade named after Ivan Bohun spoke about the first experience of using the new self-propelled howitzers.
“Today, it underwent its first baptism of fire, and it was grazing fire at a distance of 32 kilometers. It fired five shells with a full charge [of gunpowder], very close to the target. The first shot is aimed from a cold barrel, the second one is adjusting. The first three “lay down” at a distance of 100 meters, and the last three – at a distance of 20 meters from each other,” said the soldier with the call sign “Melia”.
According to the military, the maximum firing range of the howitzer is 42 kilometers. For firing the gunners use aerial reconnaissance adjustments.
At the beginning of July, the gunners of the 57th Motorized Brigade showcased the combat use of two howitzers at the front line. The systems fired without an autoloader exclusively by crew.
In the same month, the Russian invaders published a video taken by a drone on the front line. The UAV camera recorded the operation of the Bohdana howitzer, but there was no confirmation of damage.
