All Ukrainian Defense Forces have been equipped with the Hrafit alert system, which can be installed on a pocket-sized device and provides real-time warnings of drone or guided-bomb activity in the area.

Serhiy Melnyk, Head of the information and analytical support department of the 69th Separate Special Electronic Support Center, told Militarnyi that the Center develops EW systems for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The tablet- or phone-based system has already been supplied to the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the Security Service, the Border Guard Service, and other units.

Hrafit can quickly warn users and display information about reconnaissance and strike drones, as well as guided aerial bombs.

“This application can be in your pocket and inform you of a threat,” Melnyk noted.

A turning point for the national electronic warfare program came in November 2023, when The Economist published an article by Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, then-Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The article discussed the deployment of Ukraine’s national Pokrova electronic warfare system, as well as the Hrafit and Kvartz situational awareness systems used to counter Russian missile and drone attacks.

The Pokrova system uses spoofing technology to replace satellite signals and disrupt drone navigation systems. As a result, drones veer off course, miss their targets, or crash without detonating.

Pokrova is supported by Hrafit, which automatically transmits and displays information about UAV flights, and Kvartz, which collects, processes, and displays data and manages electronic warfare assets.

Adaptation of Hrafit for civilian use is now under consideration.

“There are requests from military administrations, state institutions, Ukrzaliznytsia, and the Emergency Service,” Melnyk said.

Currently, information about attacks is usually posted in Telegram channels. The idea is to make such data more accessible and secure, ensuring timely alerts for the public and critical infrastructure.
