Gunners of the Armed Forces of Ukraine received German 155mm DM121 rounds.
Photos and videos of this ammunition in Ukraine were published by Ukrainian and German journalists.
The ammunition is intended for the German Panzerhaubitze 2000 artillery systems, which are in service with Ukraine.
Presumably, the shells came to Ukraine from the reserves of the German army.
In 2019, Germany’s military ordered 32,000 DM121 high-explosive shells from Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH.
The order followed the first batch of about 30,000 shells ordered in 2009.
The last contract has not yet been completed, it would last for five years.
It is stated that this 155 mm ammunition can reach a range of up to 30 kilometers when fired with a PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzer.
A DM121 projectile with optimized effective mass, developed by Rheinmetall, delivers several kilograms of highly effective explosives to the target with utmost accuracy.
The arms company assures: “At the maximum range, about 85 percent of all shells hit an area the size of a football field.”
Thanks to the interaction of high-quality components, the munition is able to penetrate reinforced concrete fortifications.
Thanks to guaranteed operation in the temperature range from -46 °C to + 63 °C, DM121 provides the same efficiency in all climatic zones worldwide.
