The Armed Forces of Ukraine are using the T-84 main battle tanks in the hostilities.

Photos capturing the T-84 tank at the front line were released on social media.

The tank is probably used by the soldiers of the 14th Mechanized Brigade. It is also possible that this tank is in service with one of the Brigades positioned in the Kharkiv region.

In 2017, only six of the ten tanks were restored and handed over to the 14th Mechanized Brigade.

According to the latest data, the 14th Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Roman the Great holds its area of responsibility in the Kherson region.

The T-84 tank is the further evolution of the T-80UD. Compared to the T-80UD, the new Ukrainian modernization has an increased engine power of 1,200 hp and improved aiming and surveillance devices. In addition, a Varta system has been installed to combat enemy anti-tank weapons.

In 2018, tankers of the 14th Mechanized Brigade equipped with T-84 tanks participated in the Strong Europe Tank Challenge 2018.

The tank made positive first impressions, the 6TD-2 diesel engine was deemed powerful, reliable, and quiet.

However, during the combat part of the “Strong Europe Tank Challenge 2018”, only one tank managed to fire.

The tanks were found to have problems with jamming and a weapon stabilizer, which was also not working.

In 2020, the T-84 main battle tanks were sent to the Military Institute of Tank Troops of the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” after undergoing repairs.

It is unclear how many of the tanks are in operational condition and whether the problems identified in 2018 were resolved.
