Ukraine has called on the Czech Republic and Slovakia to assist in repairing its military equipment damaged during fighting against the Russian invasion.
Militarnyi informs about it.
This information was confirmed by the defense agencies of the two countries, “European Pravda” reports with reference to AFP.
“Ukraine has asked the Czech Republic to assist in repairing the damaged equipment. Procedures and possible repairs options are now being discussed,” said Jana Zechmeisterova, Spokeswoman of the Czech Defense Ministry.
Jaroslav Nad, Slovak Defense Minister, told reporters on Wednesday that Slovakia had also been addressed, and that the repairs would be executed by private companies.
“If it goes through, it will be done on a standard commercial basis. The companies are private, they can’t work for free,” he added.
As reported earlier, the German Federal Government has approved the supply of armored personnel carriers to the Ukrainian Army.
This approval regards the supply of armored combat vehicles from the German Democratic Republic (GDR) warehouses, that are now located in the Czech Republic. Christine Lambrecht, German Defense Minister, has authorized this delivery. This will cover 58 BMP-1 armored personnel carriers.
The armored personnel carriers came into the possession of the German Armed Forces after reunification and were initially handed over to the Swedish army at the end of 1990s.
They were later sold to a Czech company, which is now trying to sell them over to the Ukrainian army. However, a German permit was needed for this operation.
