The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles to Saudi Arabia.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced this.
The deal, worth a total of approximately $3.5 billion, was approved on May 2, 2025.
The approved package includes 1,000 AIM-120C-8 radar-guided missiles and 20 additional guidance sections, intended to replenish the inventory of the Royal Saudi Air Force.
The missiles will be integrated with Saudi Arabia’s Eurofighter Typhoon and Boeing F-15C/S/SA Eagle fighter jets to enhance the kingdom’s air defense capabilities.
In addition to the missiles, the deal includes training mock-up missiles, LAU-128 launchers, missile containers, software, spare parts, technical documentation, and logistical and engineering support.
Personnel training is also part of the agreement.
RTX Corporation (formerly Raytheon Technologies), headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, will serve as the prime contractor.
Militarnyi previously reported that the State Department also approved the sale of AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder missiles to Norway, valued at approximately $370.9 million.
The package includes 300 AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder missiles, two AIM-9X Block II Special Training Missiles (NATMs), 24 AIM-9X Block II Captive Air Training Missiles (CATMs), 20 AIM-9X Block II Navigation Units, and 20 Navigation Units for CATMs.
The Royal Norwegian Air Force also recently took delivery of its first Joint Strike Missile (JSM), a long-range, precision-guided cruise missile designed for use on the F-35.
