The U.S. State Department has approved a potential foreign military sale to Ukraine, which includes equipment to support air defense systems and M109 self-propelled howitzers.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) published the announcement on July 24.
The two separate packages are valued at a combined total of approximately $330 million, and are intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defensive capabilities amid ongoing Russian aggression.
Specifically, the $180 million air defense support package includes maintenance, spare parts supply, and upgrades for existing U.S.-origin air defense systems, as well as personnel training.
Additionally, the package covers consumables and accessories, training equipment, engineering and technical services, U.S. government and contractor logistics support, and other related logistics and software support elements.
The technical maintenance, repair, and overhaul package for M109 self-propelled howitzers and related equipment is estimated at approximately $150 million.
It includes technical assistance, training, publications, and other related logistics and software support elements for the howitzers, which Ukraine has previously received from the U.S. and other allies as part of military aid.
On July 23, the U.S. Department of State approved a potential sale to Ukraine of the HAWK Phase III air defense system and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, along with related maintenance and support. The combined value of the two packages is estimated at approximately $322 million.
