On the night of October 6, explosions were heard deep in the Russian rear: Tyumen was one of the epicenters.
The Tyumen Oblast Government Information Center reported a drone attack in the industrial zone of the Antipino neighborhood, near a local oil refinery.
“There were no casualties, ‘no explosions or burning were allowed,’ and the enterprises are operating normally,” regional and federal media reported.
Despite the official assurances, local media reported a massive deployment of emergency services to the Antipino refinery, which caused a stir on social media.
Eyewitnesses reported loud impacts and loud noises in the area of the industrial zone.
In particular, they published a chronology of events and comments from residents about “loud bangs,” while other media outlets clarified that three drones were allegedly neutralized on the approach or on the territory of the enterprise.
It is worth noting that Tyumen is located approximately 2,000 kilometers from the state border of Ukraine, which makes the very fact that UAVs appeared in this region an event of particular significance even in the absence of any recognized damage.
At the same time, the authorities have not released any official photos/videos of the incident, limiting themselves to text messages.
Official Ukraine has so far refrained from commenting on the direct involvement of its forces in the strike.
However, this incident may serve as a harbinger of a new phase of technological escalation of the conflict, in which unmanned systems will become the main tool of threat to the deep rear, according to international media.
Meanwhile, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, one of the targets was an explosives and ammunition plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region of the Russian Federation.
