Future Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets for Turkey are planned to be armed with Turkish missiles of their own design.
The British Embassy in Ankara has provided TurDef with full written responses to Turkey’s plans to purchase 20 Eurofighter Typhoons.
The diplomatic mission confirmed that the first delivery of the aircraft to Turkey is scheduled for 2030.
It is also reported that the configuration of the aircraft has already been finalized, which indicates the political approval of the capability package for the Turkish Air Force.
The inclusion of the Meteor missile was confirmed, and two strategic clarifications were provided that had not previously been included in the responses of industrial participants in the program.
In particular, it is stated: “Turkey has made its intentions clear. The UK will work with Turkey to achieve the best possible outcome”.
According to TurDef, this indicates a political openness to the integration of Turkish air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons on the Eurofighter Typhoon.
Earlier, Turkey successfully tested two domestic air-to-air missiles – Bozdoğan short-range and Gökdoğan medium-range.
In addition, Turkey will be able to export its own sovereign weapons systems to other Eurofighter countries.
In October, the United Kingdom and Turkey signed a $10 billion contract for the supply of 20 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.
This is the largest combat aircraft export deal from the UK in 20 years.
More than a third of each aircraft will be manufactured in the UK, with the remaining components produced in Eurofighter partner countries. Rolls-Royce in Bristol will produce the engines, and Leonardo in Edinburgh will supply radars.
