Qualification trials of the P-18PL radar have been successfully completed in Poland.
The new radar, in particular, is supposed to submit information to the Wisła and Narew anti-aircraft missile systems, reports the Polska Zbrojna portal.
A Polish long-range P-18PL 3D radar with an active electronic scanning AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) antenna operates in the meter range.
P-18PL can also be used as an initial guidance radar for air defense and missile defense systems.
The new radar was developed by the PIT-Radwar consortium and the Military University of Technology (Wojskowej Akademii Technicznej) as part of a research project.
The three-coordinate radar allows to determine the range to the detected air object, as well as the direction of its flight (azimuth) and altitude.
Due to the fact that the radar operates in the meter range, this allows to detect targets at long distances of 300-400 km, including aircraft with reduced visibility in the radar spectrum (the so-called stealth aircraft).
It is noted that the completion of qualification tests of the P-18PL radar makes it possible for the Weapons Agency of Poland to sign a contract for serial production with their manufacturer PIT-Radwar.
It should be reminded that in December this year the delivery of modernized NUR-21MK radars to the Polish army was completed.
The transfer of equipment took place as part of an agreement that was signed on August 2, 2019 between PIT-RADWAR SA and the Polish Arms Agency.
Under the contract, the company had to supply six upgraded NUR-21MK radars, as well as deliver a group set of spare parts to them.
In addition, the Polish military was to receive three containers for storing equipment and spare parts under the agreement. PIT-RADWAR was also to provide personnel training for these radars.
