The United Kingdom is considering the transfer of the Mastiff or Jackal armored vehicles to Ukraine.
According to The Times, options being considered by the Ministry of Defence include sending over the protected patrol vehicles, such as the Mastiff.
Another option is the Jackal vehicle, which can be used as a reconnaissance or long-range patrol vehicle.
The media, citing sources in its publication, shares that representatives of the British army will be sent to a country neighboring Ukraine to conduct trainings.
“Britain will be announcing further support, including shipments of anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles, in the coming days,” notes The Times.
The Mastiff (6×6) protected patrol vehicle is a kind of MRAP Cougar HE that is adapted to the British Army requirements. It is designed to transport infantry, as well as protect against small arms, land mines, and homemade explosive devices.
The vehicle is capable of carrying eight military personnel and two crew members. Mastiff has a maximum speed of 90kph and is armed with the latest weapon systems, including a 7.62mm general-purpose machine gun, 12.7mm heavy machine gun, or 40mm automatic grenade launcher.
It is suitable for road patrols and convoys.
The Jackal is a two-axle all-wheel drive off-road vehicle that is fully open from above, is not equipped with doors, and has several safety arches. This allows the crew to leave their seats quickly if necessary and provides a good overview. The V-shape of the bottom reduces the impact of the shock wave when detonating mines and improvised explosive devices.
The crew consists of three crew members: a driver and a commander with a 7.62-mm machine gun, and a shooter who works with a turret with a 12.7-mm machine gun (a 40-mm automatic grenade launcher could be installed instead).
