The documentary Legions of Light about the International Legion volunteers was shown in Ukraine.
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine said that the International Legion was able to be implemented in their structure.
Legions of Light is the sixth documentary in the series “Defence Intelligence of Ukraine”.
It was created by Artem Shevchenko with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine in cooperation with the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
In the documentary, the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov spoke about the role of foreign volunteers during the war with Russia.
The films also feature archival footage and exclusive stories of volunteer soldiers from around the world.
“Their biggest role was during the battles for the Kyiv region, when every soldier counted and additional forces of foreigners that we formed from scratch began their combat journey right on the territory of Irpin,” said Kyrylo Budanov.
Currently, volunteers from 55 countries are fighting against the Russian invaders in the ranks of the International Legion.
Budanov also named one of the reasons why the idea of the International Legion was implemented in the structure of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
“Why did it work more or less effectively for us? Among other things, there is another important aspect here: knowledge of foreign languages. And since we have many employees with fluent foreign languages, it was easier for us to do this,” Budanov said.
The International Legion unit began performing combat missions in March 2022. It operates separately from the Ukrainian International Legion, under a different command structure, with different techniques, tactics and procedures.
The unit consists of soldiers who have a high level of professionalism, previous military experience, and demonstrate high moral and stress resistance.
