Drone operators of the ‘Adam’ combined tactical group and the ‘Angels’ aerial reconnaissance unit showed video of the destruction of the rare Russian 2S34 Hosta SPG.
The corresponding video was released by ‘Adam’ combined tactical group.
The OSINT community found that Hosta was destroyed at coordinates 47.945004, 37.530501, north of the village of Mariinka, in the Donetsk region.
2S34, which was equipped with an anti-drone “grill,” stood in the forest, but this did not help it protect itself from a reconnaissance drone and FPV drones.
During the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, the Russians lost about 5 2S34, at least two were captured by Ukrainian troops.
The Russian self-propelled gun on the track chassis (self-propelled guns) of Hosta – 2S34 (originally 2S1M) has a caliber of 120 mm.
2S34 is a deep modernization of the 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer with the introduction of a number of components from the 2S31 Vena, 2S23 Nona-SVK, as well as Object 118 (GMZ).
Hosta is designed to suppress manpower, artillery and mortar batteries, rocket launchers, armored targets, fire and control posts at a distance of up to 14 km.
The self-propelled gun was produced specifically for the Russian army from 2003 to 2008.
It is known from open sources that the Russian Armed Forces have about 40 SPGs in service. There are two experimental variants of Hosta – 2S34-1 and 2S34M.
2S34-1 is a development variant of a deep modernization of the 2S1 with the replacement of a 2A31 122-mm howitzer in favor of 2A80-1 120-mm semi-automatic gun-howitzer-mortar, the replacement of the commander’s turret with the installation of the PKT machine gun, the modification of the combat compartment and the installation of a set of on-board 1V180-1 equipment similar to the 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled gun.
2S34M is an experimental modification of the 2S34, with the installation of a gun and computer system and sensor equipment.
