The Bulgarian government has approved a new military aid package for Ukraine.
This is stated on the website of the Bulgarian government.
“By resolutions № 444 and № 445 of June 23, 2023, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria approved a new package of military and military-technical assistance to Ukraine to implement the decision of the National Assembly of December 9, 2022,” the statement reads.
It is noted that the approved list is comparable to the first package in the amount of aid. It was provided by the interim government by the decision of December 22, 2022.
In addition, it is reported that the assistance provided will not violate the standards of the Bulgarian Armed Forces and their combat training.
Previously, Bulgarian Defense Minister Todor Tagarev stated in an interview with Free Europe that the aid package will include weapons and ammunition that are in Bulgaria’s stockpiles and do not need to be purchased.
At the same time, he noted that the issue of providing basic combat equipment is currently not being discussed.
“We get things from stockpiles that are in good condition, have a greater resource, but, say, 30-40 or more years, and there is always a question about the cost, what exactly do we mean, and how is this cost calculated,” Tagarev said.
In December 2022, the previous parliament passed the first decision on providing military aid to Ukraine.
Bulgaria’s interim government transferred this assistance, but President Rumen Radev opposed shipping arms and ammunition to Kyiv and advised the new government not to allow it in the future, but the new Cabinet of Ministers takes a different stance.
As previously reported, Bulgarian MG-1M machine guns, anti-tank weapons, and ammunition were delivered to Ukraine.
Also, S-8 rockets by the Bulgarian defense enterprise Armaco are being delivered to the Ukrainian Air Force from Bulgaria.
