In particular, the Ukrainian servicemen used a Ukrainian 2S22 Bohdana 155-mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer to strike on the Russian-occupied Zmiyinyi Island in the Black Sea.
This became known from the released video of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, mentioned that the invaders had left Zmiyinyi Island, unable to withstand the fire of Ukrainian artillery, missile, and air strikes.
He thanked the military defending the Odesa region from the Russian invaders: “Thank you to the defenders of the Odesa region, who undertook the maximum measures to liberate a strategically important part of our territory.”
General Zaluzhnyi also thanked the developers and manufacturers of the Ukrainian Bohdana self-propelled howitzer, as well as foreign partners that are helping Ukraine.
“A huge gratitude to the designers and manufacturers of the Ukrainian Bohdana self-propelled howitzer, which played an important role in the liberation of the island. And appreciation to foreign partners for the provided munitions.”
Ukrainian artillery fire was corrected with a Bayraktar TB2 multi-purpose drone. One of the fragments of the video recorded the defeat of the Russian Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery system.
In early May, it was reported that the Ukrainian 2S22 Bohdana 155-mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer was deployed to destroy the enemies. The Ukrainian self-propelled howitzer was being used to destroy the military equipment, positions, and personnel of the Russian occupation forces.
The 2S22 Bohdana is the first howitzer with the 155-mm NATO-standard artillery caliber, which was developed by the Ukrainian national defense industry specialists.
According to the developer of the future ACS, PJSC “Kramatorsk Heavy Duty Machine Tool Building Plant”, the range of a conventional projectile fired from a 155-mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer is up to 40 km.
Bohdana ACS was first released in July 2018. After conducting all the necessary state tests and deploying Bohdana ACS into service, the launch of its serial production was expected.
As previously reported, on June 30, Russian invasion forces have escaped the previously captured Ukrainian island of Zmiyinyi with the wording of this being “a gesture of good will.”
