The Swedish Armed Forces have ordered 775 trucks of various types from Scania and Volvo, with an option for an additional 575 units, to meet the army’s expanding logistical needs.
The Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV, Försvarsmakten) reported on this.
“The fact that we are adding another 775 modern trucks to the Swedish Armed Forces means significantly strengthening their capabilities,” Jonas Silfver Wikstrand, Head of FMV’s Heavy Wheeled Vehicles Division, announced.
The total contract value is estimated at SEK 1.4 billion ($130,16M), with deliveries scheduled between 2025 and 2026.
The trucks will be distributed among various units of the Swedish Armed Forces.
According to the details provided by the department, Scania will supply 175 flatbed trucks (6×6) and 300 flatbed trucks (4×4). Volvo will deliver 300 flatbed trucks (6×6).
In January, it was reported that Sweden signed a contract with KNDS for the supply of the latest Leopard 2A8s and also launched a large-scale restoration and modernization of its armored fleet.
Within the contract, 44 Leopard 2A8 tanks will be delivered.
Manufactured to Swedish specifications, the vehicles will receive their own designation, Stridsvagn 123.
Sweden is also upgrading 66 Stridsvagn 122 tanks, a modified version of the Leopard 2A5, to match the capabilities of newer models.
In November 2024, the Swedish Ministry of Defense signed a letter of intent to purchase C-390 transport aircraft from Brazil’s Embraer.
At the same time, the Brazilian Minister of Defense announced plans to procure nine additional Swedish JAS-39 Gripen fighter jets.
