Sweden has announced its 19th military aid package worth at $1.6 billion, which includes weapons, along with a substantial amount of airfield support equipment and machinery.
The news was shared on the Swedish government’s official website.
The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has mapped out the capabilities of its domestic defense industry to identify equipment that can be procured and delivered within 24 months. As part of this, Sweden will acquire new defense equipment worth approximately $912 million.
The package primarily includes the purchase of ammunition, air defense systems, naval equipment, satellite communication systems, infantry gear, and armored vehicles produced by Sweden and other Scandinavian countries.
“Export guarantees for defense exports will also be introduced in addition to the purchases. This means that more companies will be able to support Ukraine by providing necessary materials, alongside the acquisitions made by Sweden’s FMV. A total of $46 million has been allocated for this,” said Swedish Minister of Defence, Pål Jonson.
Another $465 million of this package will be used to finance international military assistance funds for Ukraine, as well as direct contracts with the Ukrainian defense industry.
As Militarnyi earlier reported, Sweden had previously considered financing based on the Danish model for the production of Bohdana self-propelled howitzers and 155 mm ammunition.
Approximately $50 million will be used to compensate for equipment that will be provided directly from the Swedish Ministry of Defence’s stockpiles:
In particular, around a hundred various types of airfield service vehicles, as well as equipment and tools for operating air bases, will be provided to the Ukrainian Air Force from stockpiles. It is possible that these shipments are part of preparations for the deployment of Swedish Saab 340 AEW&C reconnaissance aircraft.
An additional $50 million has been allocated by the Swedish government for the purchase of spare parts to support and maintain previously supplied Swedish equipment.
Along with the transfer of equipment from stockpiles and the contracting of new weapons supplies, Sweden will fund Ukrainian projects in the fields of CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear defense) and automatic vehicle detection using drones, through the Swedish Defence Research Agency, with a contribution of $1.1 million.
Sweden will also launch the Dragons’ Den project, which will seek and fund promising technical innovations that could be useful to Ukraine. The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration will search for and test selected technical solutions, funding their development and production launch.d
