Sweden and the Czech Republic are ready to send air defense systems and aircraft to Poland in response to Russian drones that violated the country’s airspace yesterday.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the day of the massive airspace violation by Russian drones marked “not just words of support, but also concrete declarations.”
Speaking on TVN24, he said that Sweden is ready to urgently provide air defense assistance.
“I have just received information from the Swedish Minister of Defense about the urgent deployment of additional support to Poland – both air defense systems and aircraft,” he announced.
On the evening of Wednesday, September 10, the Czech Ministry of Defense announced that it is ready to send three Mi-171Sh helicopters to Poland.
They will assist the Polish army in protecting the country from Russian drones flying at low altitudes.
Karel Řehka, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, stated the readiness to deploy a helicopter unit for special operations from the 22nd Helicopter Air Base in Náměšť nad Oslavou to Poland.
The number of military personnel required to carry out the mission will be determined based on the current situation and logistical capabilities, but it will not exceed 150 troops.
The deployment of Czech helicopters in Poland is expected to last up to three months.
At the end of 2025, the Netherlands will reinforce NATO’s logistics hub in Poland with two Patriot air defense systems and one NASAMS system.
Along with the equipment, around 300 military personnel will be deployed to operate the systems and protect the strategic facility.
