Sweden and Ukraine are making progress in negotiations on a large-scale deal that could see the possible supply of up to 150 Gripen E multi-role fighters.
This was reported by the Reuters news agency.
Swedish Defense Minister Pal Johnson said that Stockholm could partially finance the deal through military assistance mechanisms.
Sweden is also considering financing the fighter jets from frozen Russian assets.
The Defense Minister added that the final decision will depend on the position of the European Union and the coordination of legal mechanisms.
The cost of one Gripen E fighter jet is approximately $85 million, so the order for 100 aircraft is estimated at $8.5 billion.
The aircraft of this type have high combat effectiveness and are designed to operate in difficult conditions, making them particularly valuable for the Ukrainian Air Force.
