A two-seat Su-30 multirole fighter crashed in the Kaliningrad region of Russia.

The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation reported on this in the afternoon on Saturday, August 12.

The accident occurred during a training flight. The crew of the Su-30 was killed.

According to preliminary data, the crash of the fighter aircraft was caused by a technical malfunction.

Presumably, it was a Su-30SM of the Baltic Fleet Aviation Regiment of the Russian Navy, stationed in the Kaliningrad region.

The Russian warplane was flying without ammunition. The Su-30 is said to have crashed in a deserted area. No casualties on the ground reported.

By the way, today, August 12, Russia celebrates Air Force Day.

Russia has been using Su-30 fighters in the war against Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale invasion. They are used to strike ground targets and provide air cover for Russian strike aircraft.

As previously reported, on October 23 last year, during flight tests, the Su-30 fighter crashed in Irkutsk. The aircraft fell on a two-storey house.

Its crew of two pilots died. At the time, it was assumed that the pilots could have lost consciousness during the flight due to nitrogen residue in the oxygen tanks.

On October 17, a Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber crashed into a residential building in Yeysk. Both pilots managed to eject. As a result of the crash, 15 people were killed and 26 injured.

The Su-30 is a two-seat fighter aircraft designed for all-weather, air-to-air and air interdiction missions. The multi-role fighter is capable of using air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons under any weather conditions and at any time of day.
