The unexploded Iskander-K missile was removed from one of the Zaporizhzhia city districts by Ukrainian rescuers. The missile fell on the territory the day before.
The operation on missile’s neutralization continued throughout the night and morning.
This was announced by Oleksandr Starukh, Zaporizhzhia region governor, and the Head of State Emergency Service regional office.
The shell contained cluster ammunition that could explode at any time. Due to the operation, residents of six nearby houses were evacuated.
“[We] Successfully completed the operation to remove the remains of the missile that fell yesterday in one of the districts of Zaporizhzhia. This incident could have unpredictable consequences, because the enemy shell contained submunitions that could suddenly explode. Because of this, residents of six nearby houses had to be temporarily evacuated to safe places,” said Oleksandr Starukh, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA.
The missile removal and destruction of ammunition were also shown on video.
Rescuers first excavated the missile, and then loaded it onto a truck using a crane. The ammunition was taken out of the city and blown up.
Iskander-K can launch two Р-500 cruise missiles. The claimed range is 500 km.
The flight altitude of the missile is about 7 meters at the terminal stage of flight and no higher than 6 km, the missile is automatically adjusted for the entire flight time and automatically skirts the terrain.
