SSU Detained Russian Informant in the Armed Forces of Ukraine Who Was Passing Air Defense Info to the Enemy

The military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine, with the support of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, carried out a successful operation in the Mykolaiv region.

This was reported on social media by the SSU.

As a result, a Russian informant who was passing information about the Ukrainian air defense system to the occupiers was detained.

As it turned out, he was a 21-year-old serviceman from one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ air defense units who had been recruited by Russian special services.

The investigation established that he regularly leaked information about the location of Ukrainian air defense systems near operational airfields.

In particular, there are documented cases when, during an air raid alert, the informant, while on duty, filmed a monitor with secret software on his phone camera.

In addition, he passed on data to the enemy about the directions of Ukrainian aircraft takeoffs and the combat positions of air defense units.

The Russian military planned to use this intelligence to strike Defense Forces airfields, attempting to bypass radar stations and mobile fire groups.

The investigation established that the young soldier came to the attention of the Russian special services after leaving pro-Kremlin comments on Telegram channels.

During searches, a smartphone with evidence of cooperation with the enemy was seized from him. Based on the collected materials, he was notified of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Specifically, these were unauthorized dissemination of information about the direction, movement of weapons, movement, transfer, or placement of special weapons, and unauthorized sale or distribution of restricted information.

The perpetrator faces up to 12 years in prison.
