The Security Service of Ukraine has detained a Russian war criminal involved in the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia’s Kursk region.
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this following a report by Major General Oleksandr Poklad, Deputy Head of the SSU.
“Every Russian murderer must be held accountable for their crimes. And they will be,” the President stressed.
The Ukraine Context Telegram channel reported that the SSU’s counterintelligence unit performed this operation, although this has not been officially confirmed.
According to available information, the crime was committed last October.
Although the President did not provide details, this likely refers to a war crime reported on October 13, 2024.
On that day, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine opened a criminal case.
Meanwhile, the first reports and materials indicating the execution appeared in the public domain as early as October 10.
According to available information, Russian war criminals executed nine Ukrainian defenders from the 1st Separate Tank Brigade near the settlement of Zelenyi Shliakh in the Kursk region.
