Spain has confirmed the delivery of VAMTAC armored vehicles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles announced this during a visit to the UROVESA plant, which manufactures these vehicles.
She did not specify how many units or when Ukraine will receive VAMTACs, but it was announced that the armed forces are well acquainted with this equipment and actively use it on the battlefield.
“Robles thanked the company for its ability to adapt production to specific needs at any time, as well as for its contribution to helping Ukraine,” the Ministry of Defense of Spain stated.
Since its introduction in 1998, VAMTAC has been used by the armed forces of Spain and other countries in various military operations.
To date, more than 4,500 of these vehicles have been produced.
The VAMTAC is very similar to the U.S. Army’s High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), as it was built to similar specifications.
The vehicle weighs 5.8 tons and can carry up to 2.5 tons of payload. The all-wheel drive VAMTAC multipurpose vehicle has a 188 horsepower Steyr engine, allowing it to reach a top speed of 135 km/h.

VAMTAC has changed from its launch to today, particularly in terms of design and protection, but has retained its core characteristics.
The latest versions are redesigned and better armored.
As previously reported, the UK Ministry of Defense plans to purchase VAMTAC Rapid Ranger 4×4 air-defense vehicles.
