The Russian Volunteer Corps, fighting on the side of Ukraine, planned to forcefully liberate political prisoner Alexei Navalny in Russia.
The Corps shared that they had been planning Operation December since the beginning of October 2023.
For this purpose, loyal employees of Russian law enforcement agencies were involved.
The intention was to transport Navalny to the border with Ukraine and hand him over to the Russian Volunteer Corps reconnaissance group to evacuate him to the territory of Ukraine.
The group’s commander stated that they were supposed to take Navalny away from the convoy on the way from penal colony No. 6 in the Vladimir region to penal colony No. 3 in the Yamalo-Nenets district.
“Unfortunately, the security measures that the Russians undertook to prevent such scenarios proved to be quite effective. The date of Alexei’s transfer was fluctuating, and therefore, the fact itself was concealed from the public,” the Russian Volunteer Corps noted.
The date and time of the transfer were postponed several times, and in the end, it started all of a sudden by the direct oral order of the Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.
“Our group did not have time to move to the area of the planned start of the operation,” the corps says.
The Russian Volunteer Corps noted that it released the specified information for several reasons:
As previously reported, Russian politician Alexei Navalny died in a Russian penal colony on February 16.
The Russian Federation claimed that the prisoner allegedly felt sick after a walk, fainted, and died.
The politician, who was opposed to Vladimir Putin, was held in the Polar Wolf penal colony No. 3 in the village of Kharp, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District of the Russian Federation.
