The 33rd Mechanized Brigade shared how, in June 2024, the senior sergeant of an anti-tank missile platoon captured four Russian soldiers.
The brigade’s press service published the video of the incident.
According to the brigade’s soldiers, while fighting off a mechanized assault on June 14, 2024, part of the enemy’s equipment was destroyed, while the rest retreated.
“A drone spotted the approaching convoy, and the guys warned us. We got ready — prepared all the anti-tank weapons we had. We had RPGs and many single-use launchers. We prepared everything. And when they got closer to us, we opened fire. We were firing at both the tank and the infantry. The guys — using drones, grenade launchers, and heavy machine guns — stopped their convoy. Some of them turned around and fled, and others were blown up by what was already in place. A lot of the vehicles just turned around and retreated. We started firing from two, even three directions,” a soldier from the 33rd Brigade with the call sign Bars (Leopard- Ed.) shared, describing the assault.
However, one tank managed to break through to the tree line where Ukrainian soldiers were positioned and dropped off six Russian troops.
“They disembarked. Six of them got out. One took up a defensive position facing us with a PKM (Kalashnikov machine gun). He tried to fire a bit, but it didn’t work out — an FPV drone strike hit him that very moment. Another one tried to run somewhere — that didn’t work out either,” Andrii “Snickers” Lyaskovets, Senior Sergeant of the ATGM platoon, recalled.
The remaining invaders hid in a shelter, where they spent the night while Ukrainian forces struck the position with mortars and attack drones.
As Snickers recalls, the initial order was to eliminate the enemy infantry, but he convinced the commander that they could be taken prisoner.
“I told the commander: let’s storm them quietly. First of all, I was thinking about our guys sitting in prisons in Russia. We need someone to exchange them with,” he recalls.
To do this, they first sent in a Mavic drone with a drop payload. Hearing it approaching, the invaders hid in a dugout. Thanks to this, Snickers was able to approach the position without resistance and, after a few warning shots toward the enemy, convinced the demoralized invaders to surrender.
Andrii “Snickers” Lyaskovets was awarded the Order for Courage, 3rd Class, for this battle.
“I was in shock. What, really? No way. This is just our regular job, something we’re supposed to do. I enjoy this job. First and foremost, we’re soldiers. We have to do all this to stop those bastards from getting to us. That’s it. Just—more young guys. Don’t be afraid to join the army. Because you won’t win a war with pensioners alone,” he recalls.
Sadly, Andrii “Snickers” Lyaskovets was killed later that same year while performing a combat mission.
