Poland and Slovakia intend to cooperate in producing ammunition, especially 155mm shells.
Polish and Slovak Defense Ministers Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Robert Kaliniak signed the letter of intent in Warsaw.
The Slovak military is also interested in Polish Piorun launchers and modified K2 tanks.
The Piorun man-portable air-defense systems will allow the Slovak army to shoot down targets at an altitude of up to 4000 meters and a range of up to 6500 meters.
Slovakia has huge production capacities, some of the largest in Europe.
“Poland needs to expand its ammunition production capabilities, and this should happen with the participation of our companies in cooperation with those who have positive experience in this regard,” Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated.
Robert Kaliniak noted that Slovakia is interested in the Polish version of South Korean K2 tanks.
“We are interested in signing an agreement with Poland and supplying Polish products to Slovakia. It was a very good step,” the Slovak Minister said.
The Polish Defense Minister said that he also discussed with his Slovak counterpart the exchange of experience in the field of creating the Territorial Defense Forces and ensuring the security of the Polish-Belarusian border.
In 2024, it was reported that Poland plans to produce 500 K2PL tanks on its own.
South Korea’s K2 Black Panther tank is the country’s most advanced armored fighting vehicle. However, despite several other advantages, the Polish military finds that the vehicle’s protection remains unsatisfactory.
Given the customer’s requirements and the experience of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Hyundai Rotem, together with the Polish defense company PGZ, is developing a deeply modified version of the vehicle under the K2PL index for Poland.
