As part of the Czech initiative on artillery shells for Ukraine, Slovakia is restoring shells and expanding its capacity to produce new ones.
This was announced during a meeting between Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and Czech President Petr Pavel in Prague.
During the meeting, two presidents discussed the situation in Ukraine and emphasized the importance of supporting this initiative, which allows Ukraine to defend its territory.
According to the Czech president, their opinions are not very different even on controversial issues regarding assistance to Ukraine.
In his turn, Pellegrini noted that a significant part of the ammunition that Ukraine will receive at the initiative of the Czech Republic will be restored at Slovak plants.
“Slovakia has increased production at its factories where ammunition of the required calibers is produced or restored,” Pellegrini said.
He also characterized Pavel’s views on the situation in Ukraine as very pragmatic, sober, and in line with reality.
During the meeting, the Slovak president stated that he had already scheduled a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It would take place during the European Council meeting in Brussels or during the upcoming NATO summit in Washington.
It should be noted that Slovakia has not officially joined the Czech initiative at the state level but has opted for a distinctive approach by restoring purchased shells.
In addition to this, Slovak activists have initiated fundraising efforts and have successfully raised 4 million euros, which will contribute to the Czech initiative.
Previously, Militarny reported that the initial shipment of artillery ammunition purchased under the Czech initiative had arrived in Ukraine.
These artillery shells were procured from suppliers located outside NATO and the European Union.
