On 30 November in Vyshhorod, the Kyiv region, rescuers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) neutralized Russian cluster munitions carried by a Shahed drone.
According to the SESU, the drone struck the roof of an apartment building but did not detonate.
On the roof, responders found the drone’s warhead and 21 cluster submunitions equipped with self-destruct mechanisms. Another submunition was discovered in the building’s courtyard.
A cluster munition consists of a tubular element containing explosive fragments that were likely intended to detonate together with the main warhead in order to complicate clearance by specialized services and cause additional civilian casualties.
To avoid any risk to people, the area around the building was cordoned off, and the residents of the upper floors were evacuated.
Drones and a specialized robot were brought in for the operation. The robot collected the dangerous items into a special container, which was then loaded into a pyrotechnic vehicle using a crane.
All the recovered cluster elements and the drone’s warhead were neutralized with a controlled explosion at a designated site.
