Serbia has signed an agreement to purchase PULS rocket systems and Hermes 900 reconnaissance drones from the Israeli company Elbit Systems.
Haaretz reported on this.
The number of systems purchased was not disclosed, but the contract for the supply of PULS launchers with ammunition and Hermes 900 drones is estimated at $335 million.
Delivery of the weapons systems purchased in Serbia is expected to take place over the next three and a half years.
In November 2024, Elbit System already announced this contract, but it was not disclosed who the buyer of these systems was.
According to the Serbian president, drones and missile systems are expected to form a single reconnaissance and strike loop, allowing for rapid target detection and destruction.
“I would like to inform you that after hard negotiations, we have signed an agreement to purchase the most powerful artillery systems in the world. We have also acquired some of the most advanced drones in the world. These are the most advanced weapons in the world, with direct communication from the command center via drones to the missiles that are immediately launched and destroy everything. It is undoubtedly a more powerful weapon than HIMARS. Now you understand what we are buying,” Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic reported.
The purchases come amid renewed tensions between Serbia and Croatia and are likely a “response” to Croatia’s authorization to purchase eight US HIMARS MLRS.
“The new acquisitions will allow Serbia to respond to any challenge, including those from those who believe they have an advantage over us,” Vucic said.
The PULS Multiple Launch Rocket System is a versatile mobile launcher that houses containers with the ability to use a variety of different types of rockets, including precision guided munitions with different ranges.
The launcher holds two containers that can include missiles:
Israeli company Elbit Systems developed the Israeli Hermes 900, an all-weather tactical unmanned aerial vehicle.
It is designed for aerial reconnaissance, surveillance, and patrolling a given area. However, if necessary, the drone can be equipped with Spike anti-tank guided missiles. The drone made its first flight in December 2009.
