Russian troops lost a Ka-52 attack helicopter with its crew in the Kursk region.
The news was first reported by a Russian propagandist Ilya Tumanov, who runs a dedicated aviation telegram channel.
Later, the loss of the helicopter on Saturday, August 10, was also confirmed by other propagandists, including Alexei Zemtsov, who also writes about Russian aviation in the war against Ukraine.
According to them, the crew of the Ka-52, consisting of a pilot and a navigator-operator, was killed.
The propagandists claimed that the attack helicopter had been shot down by a man-portable air defense system (MANPADS) over the Kursk region of Russia.
This is the second loss of a Russian Ka-52 helicopter in this region of the aggressor country in the last few days.
On August 6, propaganda Telegram channels reported that a Ka-52 helicopter had made a crash landing after being hit by an anti-aircraft missile or other air defense system.
As a result, the helicopter’s commander was killed and the navigator was severely injured and hospitalized.
At the same time, a photo was posted on social media showing a Russian helicopter on fire at the ground.
It is worth noting that the Russian Ka-52 helicopter is equipped with ejection seats, but judging by their use, this system does not always work, and in most cases the crew is killed or injured.
Also in July, Russia reported the loss of a Ka-52 combat helicopter, which had been hit by a projectile from the Uragan multiple launch rocket system. The dates and places where and when this happened were not disclosed. The propagandists only stated that the crew had been killed.
It is worth noting that Ka-52 helicopters were shot down in the Russian-Ukrainian war with a variety of weapons. Some of these weapons were not designed to hit helicopters. In particular, in 2022, the Ukrainian military managed to hit invaders’ combat helicopters using the Stugna-P anti-tank missile system.
