Russians are expanding the use of interceptor drones to combat Ukrainian reconnaissance and strike drones.
A video captured by the 61st Separate Guards Naval Infantry Brigade was shared by a Russian propagandist.
The footage reveals that the enemy is deploying anti-aircraft FPV drones equipped with both day and night optics. The clips showcase two types of intercepts: one where the signal is lost before impact, and another involving a direct collision.
In one video, an FPV drone successfully struck a Ukrainian drone, though its warhead failed to detonate.
This may indicate the use of two types of warheads: contact and aerial detonation.
The downed Ukrainian drones include Furia, Leleka, and Shark reconnaissance drones, as well as Darts kamikaze drone and heavy multicopter bomber.
It is worth noting that Russia has been using interceptor drones for some time, although it started developing this area behind Ukraine and on a smaller scale.
Recently, the number of such videos has increased, which may indicate that the solution is being scaled up.
As previously reported, the Russian Almaz-Antey corporation manufactured and tested a prototype of a small-sized radar, the Perimeter radar, which can help the invaders build FPV interceptor drones.
The dual-axis station is said to independently determine the range, speed, and direction of movement of an object.
Its compact size allows for covert use by special units directly on the front lines to detect Ukrainian reconnaissance drones.
The MP radar can operate independently or as part of a single network with other similar stations within Perimeter radar, thereby expanding the overall field of view. At the customer’s request, it can also include optical reconnaissance capabilities.
On March 25, it was reported that during a month of combat operations in the Kharkiv region, the anti-aircraft missile and artillery division of the 3rd Assault Brigade had shot down 89 enemy drones.
Among the targets shot down were 9 Lancet loitering munitions, 6 Molniya-1 and 13 Molniya-2 drones.
Ukrainian soldiers also destroyed 9 Supercam reconnaissance drones, their modernized version Skat 350M, 4 Zala drones, and an Orlan drone.
Another 34 targets were small aircraft, and 11 were FPV drones. In addition, one Shahed-136 long-range kamikaze strike drone was shot down.
