Russia has adopted the Universal Armored Engineering Vehicle (UBIM)—a new model of engineering equipment developed based on experience from the war against Ukraine.
This was reported by Uralvagonzavod.
The UBIM combines the functions of three specialized vehicles: BREM (armored repair and evacuation vehicle), IMR (engineering clearance vehicle), and BMR (armored demining vehicle).
This allows a single platform to evacuate heavy equipment from the battlefield, clear engineering obstacles, and create passages through minefields.
The vehicle is equipped with a bulldozer attachment with variable blade geometry, a crane boom with an excavator bucket (which can be replaced with a hydraulic hammer), towing and auxiliary winches for evacuating equipment, as well as a set of tools for overcoming mine-explosive obstacles and a smoke screen deployment system.
A 12.7 mm Utyos machine gun is used for self-defense.
The vehicle is based on the T-90M tank chassis. The vehicle’s combat weight is approximately 55 tons, with a range of up to 500 kilometers.
The crew consists of two people, with the option to transport three sappers.
Work on the UBIM has been ongoing since at least 2019 under the designation ‘Object 153.’ Initially, the T-72B3 chassis was planned for use.
Since then, reports have appeared almost every year claiming that deliveries of these vehicles to the engineering troops had begun.
However, the UBIM was not officially adopted into service until March 2026, and there is still no information regarding deliveries to the troops.
