The Russians have equipped their V2U strike drone with a Chinese Mesh modem to increase its effectiveness.

Serhii Beskrestnov, advisor to the Minister of Defense, better known by his pseudonym Serhii Flash, reported on this.

The Russians use similar devices on their other drones: Gerbera, Shahes, Molniya, and Kub, which they actively use in the war against Ukraine.

The operating range of the modem found on the V2U drone is 1600-1800 MHz. At the same time, Beskrestnov notes that it can be replaced with any other.

“A long time ago, intelligence informed us that the enemy was negotiating with a Chinese factory for a contract for hundreds of thousands of Mesh modems. I remember thinking at the time, ‘Well, hundreds of thousands? That’s an unrealistic figure…” the advisor to the Minister of Defense shared in his post.

But now, according to him, the Russians are already using these Mesh modems “everywhere.”

Such Mesh modems enable a dynamic network with chain relaying, where each modem acts as a repeater for other drones. Such a network is used to transmit communications and control the drone in real time.

Recently, such a modem was discovered in the updated version of the Russian Molniya aircraft-type FPV drone.

In this way, the Russians connect the entire segment of control of their various types of UAVs into a single network. At the same time, the receiving and transmitting equipment is being unified.

According to the DIU, the V2U drone has a wingspan of 1.2 m and a payload of up to 3.5 kg. It is equipped with an electric motor that provides a cruising speed of 60 km/h. Flight duration is up to 1 hour.

Artificial intelligence software is responsible for spatial orientation and target search and selection.

Ukrainian defenders already have experience in shooting down such enemy drones with interceptor drones.
