A Russian soldier uncovered the location of a new electronic warfare system designed to counter Ukrainian drones while filming a video. Shortly afterward, a Ukrainian FPV drone destroyed the system.

The Supernova+ Telegram channel and Ukrainian volunteer Serhiy Sternenko published the video of the Russian soldier and the subsequent strike.

Footage shows Russian troops operating an EW system equipped with both a sector antenna for targeted jamming of Ukrainian drones and an omnidirectional system. They appeared to be preparing to counter drone attacks.

Soon after, Ukrainian FPV drones struck the same position, destroying the EW system. The drones targeted an omnidirectional antenna mounted in the bed of a pickup truck.

The videos from the Russian military were posted on October 11. However, analysis of footage from Ukrainian FPV operators indicates that the attack video was published on Serhiy Sternenko’s channel on September 24. Drone operators from the Requiem Group of the Balista special forces unit carried out the strike.

The same Russian serviceman later released a video showing the aftermath of the attack — the EW system and the pickup truck were completely destroyed.

OSINT analyst @99Dominik_ on X determined from the footage that the EW system was hit near the settlement of Rakitnoye in Russia’s Belgorod region, about 25 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Recently leaked internal documents from Rostec Corporation revealed cooperation between Russia and China on the supply of EW systems to protect strategic sites from Ukrainian drones.

The documents indicate that Russia has been using Chinese EW equipment since at least August 2023, particularly to protect its military airfields.
