In Kursk, an official was arrested and sent to a pre-trial detention center for embezzlement at the construction of fortifications.

Igor Grabin, who was responsible for managing the money of the Kursk Region Development Corporation, faces up to ten years in prison.
He is suspected of unreasonable spending of funds allocated for fortifications.

From February 2023 to September 2024, Grabin managed the company’s property and money.

The Kursk Region Development Corporation was established in 2012 by order of the governor and is the sole operator for working with investors and developing the region’s investment infrastructure.

In July, the Kursk Region Capital Construction Department demanded RUB 2.1 billion from the Kursk Region Development Corporation for delaying the construction of fortifications under the state defense order.

Six government contracts were signed: three in December 2022 and three more in April 2023.

This fall, Deputy Governor Aleksey Didov and Roman Denisov became witnesses in the case of postponing the construction of defense lines on the border with Ukraine, which were supposed to be built on August 1.

In October, the Kursk Department of Capital Construction was searched as part of a case involving the construction of fortifications on the border.

Security forces also searched the offices of several companies associated with State Duma deputy from Kursk Region Maksim Vasiliev.

On August 6, 2024, the Ukrainian military successfully broke through the Russian defenses in the Kursk region and quickly began to advance across the region.

In the first hours of the offensive in the Kursk region, soldiers of the 80th Air Assault Brigade, supported by a tank and in cooperation with other Armed Forces of Ukraine, captured the Russian Sudzha border crossing point. The surviving Russian soldiers, along with their wounded, were forced to surrender to save their own lives.
